This Christmas Cut Out Cookies with Sour Cream Recipe is a favorite in our family. Many call it Sour Cream Sugar Cookie Recipe but a great abbreviation is Sour Cream Cut Outs!! Not only can these be made for Christmas, but for many holidays- such as Halloween and Valentines Day. You just need to have the write cookie cutters for the occasion!

Christmas Cut Out Cookies with Sour Cream Recipe Ingredients

1 cup sugar
1/4 cup shortening (Crisco)
1/4 cup margarine or butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
1 cup sour cream 
3 – 3 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Heat oven to 350 F.
Mix thoroughly shortening, sugar, egg and vanilla. Mix in Sour Cream

Mix sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, nutmeg ingredients in separate bowl. Add to creamed mixture.
Add flour to mixture one cup at a time.

Divide dough into 3 parts. Refrigerate dough for 1 hour to make it easier to roll- optional

Roll out to 1/4-inch thickness on floured surface.

Place on baking sheet.

Bake 6-8 minutes

Frost the cookies with Homemade Vanilla Frosting or store bought frosting. Food coloring can be added to make them more fun!
